The Belt & Road Initiative (BRI) is an economic belt connecting routes across the sea and land and an initiative linking China and the world with following aims:

The Belt & Road (B&R) Initiative, a development strategy proposed by Chinese Government that focuses on connectivity and cooperation, with an investment of many billions in railway lines, pipelines, and ports that could provide a boost for international trade and also for insurance. The year 2016 also marked the 25th anniversary of the open-dialogue relationship between China and Asean. Economic relations between China and Asean economies have been growing strongly. By the end of May 2016, the two-way investment had exceeded US$160 billion, with Asean remaining a major destination for Chinese companies. At the same time, trade across states has increased massively, from US$7.96 billion in 1991 to US$472.16 billion in 2015. Now, Asean and China are still seeking to double their trade value, setting a target of US$1 trillion by the end of 2020 which indicates there are huge potentials if companies can engage in this trade opportunity.
With the Belt and Road Initiative, it can further bring two of the world’s most dynamic economic regions together by strengthening economic linkages among the 10 members of Asean, as well as between Asean member countries and China. And right now, we can see the efforts pay off. Among the countries of Asean which has joint Belt and Road deals: Malaysia, Thailand, Laos and Indonesia improved their infrastructures mainly in railway construction to build better connections across countries. There will also be a new high-speed rail line running from southern China through Laos to Thailand’s industrial eastern coast which facilitate future trading events.

Therefore, Smark Global has started to expand their business to Asean since 2018.
